The app is free, and it stays free. No card, no trial, no expiry on the record you already have. A free account can record 13 of the 43 service types, across the three categories that need no card: fuel & cost tracking, oil & filters, and wash & aesthetics. Every one of those records is permanent.

Fuel & cost tracking
FreeEvery fill-up in three numbers: litres, price per litre and the total. The app draws the L/100 km graph from your own odometer readings, tracks your average, best and worst tank, and keeps a running total of what the car has cost you in fuel.
Also free, on every account: the digital glovebox for insurance, vignette, CT, registration and licence, the Smart Advisor reading your own mileage, the efficiency graph above, and up to three vehicles.
What the card actually changes.
The short version: a free account is genuinely useful, and there is nothing wrong with staying on it. A Smart Key is what turns a fuel log into a service record — the other five categories, the export, and the appearance that belongs to the car.

Why it is a card, and not a code.
A new phone, the same garage.
Your fuel, service and care logs and your document photos live on your phone. What syncs to your TuniTag account is the structure: your cars, their expiry dates, your Smart Key permissions and the access that key carries. Sign in on a new phone and the garage is rebuilt, with the key still working.
The logs themselves travel two ways: by signing in for the structure, and by exporting an encrypted backup from the app to carry the entries across. Export a backup before you change phones — it is one tap on the transfer screen, and it is the only copy of that history that is not on the old device.

Get the app, free
Install TuniTag Drive and sign up with the same email. Adding your car and logging fuel costs nothing and needs no card.
Tap it once
Open Settings → Account → Link TuniTag Smart Key and hold the card to your phone. One tap, one account, one card.
A year begins
All eight categories open, the export turns on, and the M Performance appearance joins the other two.
What it is not.
- Not a subscription. There is no recurring charge, nothing renews on its own and there is nothing to cancel. One payment covers one card for twelve months, and the per-month figure is that payment divided by twelve — it is a way of reading the price, not a bill.
- No in-app purchases. There is no payment screen anywhere inside the app. If anything is ever sold to you, it is sold here on the website.
- Not an OBD reader. The card does not plug into the car and reads no fault codes. It is the key to your record, not a diagnostic tool.
- Not an official BMW product. TuniTag is independent. BMW and its model names belong to their owners, and a mention here means the app works with the car.
- Not a replacement for the dealer's own service book. It is your copy of what happened to the car, kept by you, exportable, and worth having at resale.
Questions buyers ask.
Is this a subscription?
No. There is no subscription and no in-app purchase. The TuniTag Smart Key is a physical card bought once, and it covers twelve months of premium access. Nothing renews automatically.
Do I need it to use the app at all?
No. The app is free, and a free account records fuel and 13 service types across two categories, with the glovebox, the Smart Advisor and three vehicles. The card adds the other thirty types, the export and the M Performance appearance.
When does my year start?
The first time you link the card in the app — not the day you order it. A card that waits in a drawer costs you nothing.
What happens when the twelve months end?
The app goes read-only for the premium surface until a valid key is linked. Nothing is deleted: your history stays on your phone and stays readable, and linking a new key resumes recording exactly where you left off.
Does it cover more than one car?
One card and one account cover up to three vehicles in your garage — the same three a free account gets. The card changes what you can record, not how many cars you can keep.
Can I use one card on two accounts?
No. A card is registered to a single account, and a card already registered elsewhere is refused. Your account also takes only one card at a time. If you need a replacement, contact support rather than buying another.
I lost the card. Is my history gone?
No. Your history was never on the card — it is on your phone. What you lose is the access the card carried. Get in touch and we will sort out a replacement.
Will it work with my BMW?
The app covers 166 BMW models across 37 series, from the 1972 E12 to the 2024 line-up. Check the full list — and if you are unsure which generation you have, tell us the model and we will confirm before you order.
Everything free stays free. The card adds the record.
Nothing on the free tier is taken away by buying a key, and nothing you have already logged is locked behind it. The card is what lets the app hold a complete history — every category, exported, and in the appearance the car deserves.
